#Emilymatters is a social media campaign to support and advance gender equality, particularly focusing on the importance of voting. See our #Emilymatters page to find out more about what we do.
It’s been a brilliant couple of weeks with the recent Girlguiding LaSER’s Use Your Voice! event in London a particular highlight.
.
It was a pleasure and a privilege to be part of the Live from the Living Room event at City Hall on Saturday evening, alongside so many fantastic speakers & performers*, who all added to the empowering message at the heart of this brilliant event – Use Your Voice!
* Efa Supertramp, Selina Nwulu, Nicola Grinstead & Helen Beecher Bryant.
I performed my suffragette Emily Davison speech from To Freedom’s Cause, the play at the heart of the campaign that was also its catalyst.

The event was a great showcase for how Girlguiding is encouraging and empowering girls and young women – to find their unique voice, seek out new challenges and to make a positive difference in their community.
The #Emilymatters campaign seeks to promote Emily Davison’s powerful legacy through creative projects, using social media and community events. Our work encourages young people to step up, vote and lead. It was therefore a great privilege to be part of this year’s Use Your Voice event in London.

Next month we’ll be celebrating Emily Davison’s birthday and we’d love you to join us! We’ll be sharing more details shortly.

We were thrilled with the response to our birthday tea for Emily last year, which included a world’s first when we played the suffragette boardgame Pank-a-Squith on Periscope. And we’re planning to make our celebrations even more creative this time!
On Sunday we held our first #Emilymatters Meet Up with friends and supporters. It was great to discuss ideas & future plans as the campaign returning to its creative roots with To Freedom’s Cause at its heart. The Meet Up was a great success, so we’re looking to host another one!
Wherever you are in the world, we cordially invite you to join us when we celebrate Emily’s birthday next month. Because equality and voting matter globally!
