Heroines, Heroes & Trolls #Periscope in the Park
P E R I S C O P E I N T H E P A R K
.
The Postman’s Park Memorial is a hidden gem in the City of London. It was the setting for my first #scope yesterday (although Team #Emilymatters did theirs from the former WSPU Head Quarters on Friday).
See: http://bit.ly/heroines-heroes-Trolls-scope2
The park was also the setting for a To Freedom’s Cause shoot back in 2011.
.
To Freedom’s Cause is my about suffragette Emily Davison. Emily embraced new media to promote her campaigning, so it felt right to take up the latest in social media, which is the live stream app called #Periscope.
Yesterday I headed back to the Memorial, which pays tribute to the brave women and men who lost their lives saving others.
.
Given Emily’s brave sacrifice, it felt an appropriate location to return to.
In addition, I took the opportunity to briefly mention a few tips about how to Periscope and in particular how to deal with trolls.
The clip is approximately 6 minutes long and the link is only valid about 6pm 1st July! Periscope is like a digital Mayfly and if you’re a theatre person I think you’ll embrace it’s fleeting presence.
.
However, you are able to save the links and upload them to YouTube if you wish to afterwards. But the direct Periscope link will no longer work after 24 hours.
.
And if you like what you see/hear then please tap the screen and you’ll see a little flurry of hearts (as above).
Let me know if you watch it and if you like we can continue the conversation, because as you’ll see that’s what Periscope’s all about.

If you’ve not watched a #scope before, some of the comments I respond to don’t appear in the replay (not quite sure why), but you will see most of them on the screen so hopefully it makes sense!
I mention #Emilymatters briefly. Here’s a little background information about it and how you can get involved.
#Emilymatters highlights gender equality issues & supports campaigns that seek to redress the balance and was created as part of the social media campaign to promote ‘To Freedom’s Cause’ the campaign for equality – still worth fighting for? event at the House of Commons in February 2014.
.
Voting is just the start. Team #Emilymatters is busy planning future creative projects that will encourage young people and women, not only to vote, but to step up and lead.
There are exciting times ahead so please do get in touch!

Listening and valuing what others have to say is very much a a part of what I do, which is another reason I think Periscope is so interesting. Hope you can join me the next time.
